What is Chronic Illness Recovery Day about?
You are recovered or recovering from a chronic illness?
You would like to spread hope and share your story with others?
You are invited to take part the Chronic Illness Recovery Day that will happen on social media, on 📅 Monday July 13th.
This day is about:
✨ CELEBRATION of all recovery journeys, full and progressing.
🙏 GRATITUDE and thanking the people, friends, family, coaches, teachers, groups… who have helped us along the way (no need to use full name).
❓CURIOSITY and offering to support others as they get curious about recovery and answer their questions about recovery.
How to take part
Share about your journey on your social media and in recovery support groups to inspire others and spread hope, in any way you feel comfortable doing so!
Any format is great. A long post, a short post, a picture, a poem, feel free to be creative! Below are a few examples of what can be done.
1- Share a photo of yourself doing something you couldn’t do when you were ill, and can now do.
This doesn’t have to be climbing a mountain! It could be going out for a meal, picking up your child from school, enjoying a sunny afternoon in your garden, or reading a great book.
2- Share what recovery or progress means to you.
What changed in your life throughout this journey?
How does recovery feels?
What is your latest win, big or small?
3- Acknowledge and thank the people who have helped you along the way.
4- Share other recovery stories and links to sites collecting them.
5- Use Recovery Day badges or include RecoveryDay hashtags in your posts
| Badges – You can post the badge on its own with your own words – You can add the badge to a personal photo (pick one of the logos with a transparent background) – You can pick one with the specific condition you’re recovering / recovered from. Here the link to the official badges: Recovery Day badges |
| Hashtags You can use hashtags: #ChronicIllnessRecoveryDay or #RecoveryDay |
6- Write and share blog posts about the day or your journey.
7- Show yourself celebrating the day in some way! Going for a nice walk, having a drink, playing a game, and toasting people who are recovered and recovering.
This day contributes to building a compassionate, supportive community that recognize that there isn’t just one way to heal. There are many! Every contribution helps create a wave of hope and possibility.
A note on sharing and respect
We know that not everyone feels comfortable using the word recovery, and that some in the ME/CFS and Long Covid communities don’t believe recovery is possible and may be outspoken about it.
If you choose to share and receive any negative or challenging reactions, please know you’re not alone. You’re welcome to highlight these by email at contact@recovery-channel.org, and we’ll do our best to make sure you feel heard and supported.
Our hope is that Recovery Day remains a compassionate, understanding space for everyone to share their truth.
